Storage Magnate Snaps up 12 sites & continues search for more, Scotland on Sunday 21st March 2010.
Backed by the Bank of America, in a £20 million deal self storage entrepreneur Alister Jack is on the look-out for yet more storage sites after “snapping up” 12 storage centres, previously operated by Storage King.
Given the acquisition of the 12 sites from Australian investment bank Macquarie, Alligator Storage is now the UK’s 2nd largest independent self storage operator with a portfolio of 17 sites throughout the UK.
Always on the hunt for more opportunities, Chief Executive of Alligator, Alister Jack states “We have the ability to finance the acquisition of more sites...............we would ideally like to buy 2 or 3 more in the next year”
The UK Self Storage Association has reported steady growth in the market over the past 5 years of between 8% and 15% with Alligator seeing fill-up rates head back towards the peak 2006/7 levels, after the lull caused by the property market.
Alister also adds, “People often ask me if the UK self storage market is near saturation and the answer is no.
“The American Self Storage Industry offers 6 square feet of space per population head and in the UK we have not achieved even a quarter of that”
