This weekend saw the 43rd Southampton Boat Show take place: the UK’s leading outdoor boat show. The show provides the ideal opportunity for exhibitors from all over the world to show off the latest innovations from the marine leisure industry. Despite the difficult economic times it would appear boat owners are still looking at ways to improve the way in which they enjoy their pastime. The Show ran for 10 days and experienced the attendance of approximately 111, 017 visitors which proved encouraging when sales were tallied-up.
With over 580 exhibitors showcasing their wares, the diversity of the marine leisure industry was evident. Much more than just boats were on sale: essential safety equipment, clothing, items to make certain aspects of sailing and boat operations easier, quicker and cleaner. The list of peripheral items required for sailing is endless. However, as much as most of them are actually necessary, they are only necessary in certain situations: largely dictated by weather conditions when out on the water.
With limited space on any vessel the practicality of bringing everything you own, all of the time is an exercise in futility. All mariners will know careful planning and close attention being paid to the weather forecast is essential in the preparation for any boating trip. This coupled with the use of self storage facilities ensures only the necessary items are taken for any one particular trip out onto the water.
Boat owners in Southampton can benefit from using self storage in many ways. Firstly, any items purchased in relation to being a boat owner tend not to be cheap. Storing expensive equipment on your boat leaves both your boat and the equipment at risk from theft. If the items are stored within a secure self storage facility ensures peace of mind your expensive items are as safe as can be.
Secondly, the flexibility of self storage is beneficial to the boat owning community given the seasonality of the pastime. The winter months are not generally favoured as “peak” sailing times and tend to be when any repairs are carried out on the vessel itself. Crucial safety checks can also be carried out on the rest of the equipment: most easily and comfortably done somewhere clean, dry & secure with adequate lighting. Self storage in Southampton provides the ideal location for such activities as well as the ability to change the size of storage room rented whenever the requirement arises: ensuring you only pay for what you need.
Attendance at the Show was down approximately 9% on 2010 figures but sales were still strong, despite the current economic climate in the UK. Self storage provision in Southampton has improved in recent years and now offers the flexible, affordable self storage solutions which are ideally suited to the boat owning community.
