Self Storage - The Saviour of Ladies Day

Posted June 16 2011 in General Storage

With nearly £4million in prize money at stake, Royal Ascot is one of the most prestigious events on the UK racing calendar.  World renowned for its first class racing which attracts the top riders & horse from far and wide, Royal Ascot has made a name, in its more recent history, for the levels of style on display by those who attend this vibrant race meet.  Traditionally, “Ladies Day” is the focal point of the fashion stakes but more recently the entire event has become an opportunity for “fashionistas” to put on a colourful display.

Of course, most would claim they are there to watch the top flight racing and place a few bets.  Tradition is maintained with every race day beginning in the same way.  From the Golden Gates, the Royal Procession makes its way towards the Parade Ring ready for the 2.30pm race.  After the last race at 5.35pm, the party continues with the wins being celebrated and the losses being lamented.  The whole event is geared towards a party atmosphere, albeit a high-class one.

Every year the outfits and accessories get bigger, bolder and brighter than the year before.  Royal Ascot maintains strict dress codes depending on what part of the racecourse you are granted admission to.  Jeans, sports shoes, football colours, amongst other things are strictly forbidden.  Fancy dress however, is not provided its “within reason”

This is where some of the most outrageous creations are put on show, much like the horses, for the crowds and now more recently the media.  Due to the vast amount of media attention given to Ladies Day, no self-respecting fashionista would dare wear the same outfit and hat more than once.  This therefore poses the question of “What will I do with it all now?”

Some celebrities have been known to auction off their outfits in aid of charity; other racegoers may be even more creative and adapt the hat for another occasion.  Regardless of the fate destined for these items of clothing and accessories, they need to be put somewhere and self storage is the ideal long and short term solution.  Whether it be stored for a short period until its fate is decided, or an entire collection of hats worn by celebrities are stored prior to auction, self storage is the easy cost effective option for anyone who needs to store an Ascot-worthy fashion creation
