How do you store the World’s largest Easter egg?
Well, it is that time of year again when all the Easter eggs are rolled into our supermarkets and quickly rolled back out again into our tummies!
The chocolate Easter egg range never fails to increase year after year from eggs with toys, mugs, games, chocolates, bunnies, gold leaf, champagne and even a chocolate pizza (yes it exists!) there is something to suit everyone.
A recent poll, by mystery shopping company Retail Active, has found that children between 10 – 14 years old consume, on average approx 13 chocolate eggs over the Easter period. A typical 200g Easter egg contains 990 calories and 50 grams of fat, so that amounts to a lot when times by 13 and consumed by youngsters!
Generally Easter eggs aren’t around long enough to require storage at home or elsewhere before they are eaten, but how do you store the largest Easter egg in the world?
The largest Chocolate Easter Egg according to the Guinness Book of Records was made by Guylian the Belgian chocolate producer. The Guylian team prepared the chocolate egg with at least 50,000 bars on behalf of the city of St. Niklaas, Belgium. The massive egg measured 8.32m high, took 26 people a staggering 525 hours to build, and required 1950 kg of chocolate to create the confectionery giant.

The Guinness World Records also details the world's largest chocolate Easter Egg based on weight. The new record breaker (2010) is only 4m high but it weighs a staggering 6,440 kg as it is a solid egg! This egg was created by the team at Supermercados Imperatriz Ltd and Nestlé (Brazil) at Beiramar Shopping Centre in Sao Jose, Santa Catarina, Brazil, on 3 April 2010. As it turns out, these giant Easter eggs didn’t require storage as they were eventually broken down and distributed amongst charities.
To safely house both these mammoth eggs in self storage, a whopping 500 SqFt would be needed.
