Jamaine's Charity Cycle Challenge - Molineux to Wembley

Posted April 13 2011 in Staff

At Alligator Self Storage, we are always willing to help a worthwhile cause, especially those our staff have a personal interest or connection with.  Last year the Head Office team successfully completed the Edinburgh Moon Walk, and Kim (Branch Manager, Wednesbury) completed the Race for Life.  Our Wednesbury branch have stepped up again and this time its Deputy Manager, Jamaine’s turn to dedicate time and a vast amount of effort to a meaningful cause.  Below is Jamaine’s take on the event he is planning to take part in next weekend:

Alligator Storage Supports Charity Cycle

“I think every person wants to be able to look at them self and say “I made a difference”.  That’s why when I was asked to take part in a charity bike ride I didn’t even have to think about it, not only because it is going to raise money for a variety of good causes but also, so I could have the bragging rights for completing the challenge.
The challenge I’m referring to is a whopping 140 mile ride from Molineux Football Stadium, the home ground of my local team the Wolves, to Wembley Stadium!  For those of you who don’t have a vast knowledge of football Stadia and their locations, that’s from Wolverhampton, in the West Midlands, to London on a bicycle: that’s more than four times the length of the channel tunnel!
The event is being organised by a local fund raising organisation called Punjabi Wolves who hold a variety of events throughout each year, in an effort to raise money for charity.  The thing I particularly like about the organisation is they don’t just support one particular charity, they choose a few different charities to divide the proceeds between.  This approach means the money they raise can potentially help a vast amount of people suffering from a number of different conditions. The chosen charities for this event are:

Last year the event raised over £16,000, this year over 20 riders are taking place and are hoping to reach a target of raising £20,000 in sponsorships.  This seems a daunting task but I knew I could count on my employers and fellow work colleagues of Alligator Self Storage to get me off to a good start.  As I have worked for the company for over 2 years and now hold a position as Deputy Manager in the Alligator Storage Wednesbury branch I have got to know the whole head office team quite well, so when I told them about the event the whole team were practically falling over each other in an attempt to get their names and pledges on my sponsor form...... ok maybe that’s a small exaggeration, but they have shown full support.  I have had to endure odd joke around the office about my cycling shorts but it’s all worth it in the name of this great event.

Well, I think that’s enough of me rambling on, I’d better get on my bike and start training, 140 miles isn’t going to be easy in the slightest. Wish me luck everyone and don’t be afraid to get your wallets out and make a donations yourself, no matter how big or small you will be able to say ‘I made a difference’.”

Alligator would like to wish Jamaine, the other riders, as well as the support team involved in making this event run smoothly and safely, the best of luck for their event........and we hope they’ve all invested in padded shorts to ease the pain!

Donations are to be made directly to Jamaine (cheque, cash or PayPal) to avoid the charity having to pay transaction charges and make sure they receive the FULL amount raised by the riders.
If you wish to support Jamaine in this amazing challenge, please email the Wednesbury branch and Jamaine will let you know all the details needed for you to donate.
