Self Storage in Dunstable is Ideal for Charity Appeals

Posted November 25 2011 in Self Storage Centres

As Christmas approaches, charities throughout the UK are working together to make sure Christmas cheer is spread to those less fortunate in the third world: a charity in Dunstable is a prime example of this Christmas goodwill. “Operation Christmas Child” has managed to collect over 250 shoeboxes full of presents from all round Dunstable for needy children overseas.  All 269 boxes are on their way, via a storage warehouse in Cambridge before heading towards their final destination in Liberia.

This is a fantastic example of how communities, even during these hard economic times, are uniting to helping third world countries.  However, the levels of goodwill and cheer could be increased and spread further if a self storage facility was brought in on proceedings.  Using Operation Christmas Child as an example, the benefits of using a self storage centre to co-ordinate a charitable scheme from are as follows:

Central Location – storage facilities are intrinsically easy to reach regardless of means of transport used so they provide a perfect base, not only for donations to be dropped off but also for co-ordinating operations from.

Wider promotional scopestorage centres now have a fairly substantial on-line presence whereby they are able to promote the work of the charity via press releases and social networking platforms.  Publicity to encourage local residents and businesses to make their donations is very much a numbers game and any storage operator would be happy to help this process.

Space – self storage facilities have what most places lack, space.  Space is readily available to receive donations and package them up for shipment to their final destination.  Shipments tend to be made in bulk to ensure costs remain as low as possible meaning the appearance of large vehicles and or containers: storage centres have the space to accommodate the arrival of HGVs without causing traffic mayhem

Cost – although any business wants to make a profit from every customer, self storage operators are more than willing to ensure charities receive extremely favourable rates

Security – all reputable storage facilities have extremely high levels of security which provides peace of mind knowing all the hard work by volunteers and the donations made by the public are safe and secure until they are shipped

Dunstable’s "Operation Christmas Child" is a good example of a charity working towards the same goal at the same time every year: storage space could be put aside for October and November every year in order to manage their charitable operation.

However, often charitable work cannot be planned such as when a natural disaster occurs somewhere in the world: tsunamis, earthquakes, and floods result in an enormous amount of human suffering which need eased.  Frantic appeals are made for clothing, equipment, food and medical supplies: appeals can rely on self storage operators to very quickly provide local charities in Dunstable the space required to co-ordinate their aid operations, even at very short notice.
